Week 12 focused on the three levels of internet protection:
Strong Protection
Password hygiene
Best practices for Authentication (2FA, Better Security Questions, etc.)
Self censorship and restraint
Be careful with use of social media
Stronger Protection
Keep all data encrypted
Use VPNs and virus protection
Wipe hard drives when done
Protect your communications
Use Temp emails
Strongest
Cover cameras
The rest is so crazy, if you really cared you’d probably know all of them by now anyway
Nice! Here are my takeaways:
ReplyDelete1. There is plenty of information online that could be incorrect or outdates (such as Preston's engaged status). It's always wise to fact-check this information you find online.
2. Posting about your vacation while you're on vacation can be dangerous, as it's basically an announcement that your home is prime for being burglarized. Wait until you get back home before posting. It also helps to have some sort of home alarm system.
3. There are plenty of ways to protect your passwords. Use different passwords for each account, use a password manager, use two-factor authentication, etc.
4. Online quizzes can easily gain a lot of information from you. If any of you guys are using the new app Checkmate, keep that in mind!
5. I find it very interesting that pretty much everyone in the Dryer family has law degrees.
Thanks for posting Nate! I thought last week's lecture was a great culmination of everything we went over this semester. It was crazy to see how much personal information is available online with a bit of digging.
